The Pike Plan is a beloved staple and revered icon in historic Kingston Uptown. The Pike Plan canopy and streetscape were designed and built between 1969 and 1976 in Kingston’s historic Uptown commercial center along Wall and North Front Streets. Designed as a preservation-inspired response to Urban Renewal by local and celebrated artist John Pike with architect Albert E. Milliken, the Pike Plan is the most significant reflection of the Bicentennial remaining in Kingston today.
Due to years of neglect and failure to maintain by the City, the beloved Pike Plan Canopy is in disrepair.
Instead of allocating the funds to fix the Pike Plan Canopy and invest in Uptown Kington, the Mayor is proposing to tear the Pike Plan Canopy down without any regard for the business owners and customers that rely on it for protection against the elements and without a plan for repairing the historical buildings.
